Other Procedures

There are a number of different procedures designed to enhance your appearance.
Plastic surgery procedures that cover pretty much every part of the body. Rhinoplasty (nose job), breast augmentation (enhancement, enlargement), facelifts, tummy tucks (abdomenoplasty), and blepharoplasty (eyelid lift) are just a few types of plastic surgery procedures being performed by doctors everywhere. There are limited standards and virtually any doctor with a dental or medical degree can perform these surgeries. Training and expertise will vary. There are actually eye and ear doctors performing breast surgery. Surgery can be performed for reconstructive reasons or cosmetic purposes. When performed for reconstructive purposes, the procedures are often covered by health insurance. Cosmetic procedures are designed to enhance beauty and plastic surgery procedures can give a great boost of confidence.
Rhinoplasty (Nose Job) is one of the most popular types of plastic surgery procedures. It is performed to address a variety of nose conditions:
an over-sized nose
a bump on the bridge
a narrow or wide span of the nostrils
an undesirable shape of the nasal tip
Frontal and profile views of the nose are enhanced to provide a more pleasing appearance with better proportions. Rhinoplasty is also effective in correcting breathing problems caused by narrow or obstructed nostrils. A secondary benefit is correction of a deviated septum that results in difficulty with nasal breathing and congestion.

Another popular plastic surgery procedure is breast augmentation. Breast augmentation is a plastic surgery procedure performed to enhance the size or shape of the breasts. Surprisingly both women and men seek the breast procedures. Women who are unhappy with the size, shape, symmetry or position of their breasts, will often seek surgical intervention. Men seek either to increase or decrease their breast tissue. A condition called Gynecomastia will result in breast tissue in a male and can be corrected with a simple procedure.

Liposuction is another frequently performed plastic surgery procedure. Abdominal liposuction is a plastic surgery procedure for re-contouring the belly by permanently removing fat deposits from the abdomen. Liposuction is often a last resort to remove fat that is often resistant to diet and exercise. Some people tend to lose the overall weight, but don’t see a fat free abdomen. The overall proportions of the body may be unbalanced, or the abdomen may simply have retained areas of fatty tissue causing it to maintain the rounded shape. In these cases, the liposuction plastic surgery procedure can successfully remove excess fat in the abdomen for a flatter abdomen and more slender, balanced shape. Other areas, resistant to fat loss can be addressed as well.

Another type of plastic surgery procedure is blepharoplasty. Blepharoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure to remove skin, muscle and sometimes fat from the upper and lower eyelids that may form with age. Heredity and sun damage can accelerate these changes. Upper lid blepharoplasty can improve two common problem areas: excess skin on the upper eyelid itself, and puffiness in the inner corner and middle of the upper eyelid caused by pushing forward of fat. This plastic surgery procedure is frequently done at the same time as other procedures, such as a lower eyelid blepharoplasty, facelift, or forehead lift and can be combined with laser or chemical resurfacing to smooth skin wrinkles. Almost no plastic surgery is covered by insurance, but when drooping of the upper lids interferes with vision, the procedure may be partially or fully covered by insurance.

Aging causes our facial skin to loosen and wrinkle, and the muscles of the neck may weaken as well, causing sagging. Sun exposure, weight fluctuations, and heredity can all cause the loss of elasticity in the skin. A facelift can address these problems by firming and tightening the skin of the face and neck all in one step. This plastic surgery procedure is most effective for the lower face including the jowls and neck. Facelifts are usually performed along with other plastic surgery procedures such as upper eyelid or lower eyelid blepharoplasty. Collagen or botox injections can also be added to improve deep creases in the forehead or frown lines between your eyebrows.

The texture of the skin will not be affected by a facelift, as commonly thought. Acne scars, age spots, fine lines, and smoker’s creases will soon return to their original texture, no matter how tight the skin is pulled. Skin treatments such as laser resurfacing or chemical resurfacing can be used in combination with a facelift to improve the texture of the skins and smooth skin wrinkles.

With all of the plastic surgery procedures mentioned above, and the many more available, you can address almost any aesthetic issues that concern you. Consult with an experienced surgeon to decide which type or types of procedures can benefit you and provide the appearance that you desire.
